New York-born, Miami-raised artist Freddie Vega moved to San Jose, CA in 2003 intent on focusing his creative energies into a graphic design credential. During this period Vega was appointed co-director of a local artisan collective, Heart of Chaos, and began to move in the direction of studio art.
His experience as a musician helped him understand the importance of vibrations and how they are translated and expressed in what is visual. He intuitively began to paint and discovered through trial and error another powerful outlet for his creativity. As a second generation Cuban-Puerto Rican, Vega’s interest in indigenous art and spirituality grew as his personal experiences with nature deepened.
Enhanced by these interactions with nature’s creatures in dreaming and waking, he captured the ethereal quality of such creatures in his paintings. His art, influenced by a designer’s understanding of color, contrast and composition, blends flow within structure in a harmonious dance that keeps the viewer active and interested.
